Project Overview

LetsLink is a startup that developed new location-based social networking app – LinkApp. Their mission is to “resocialize” the social media by bringing users back into real world and promoting interpersonal interactions.

I worked with LetsLink team to define, design, and help with development of branding, application and landing page. (You can read case study on LinkApp application here).

LetsLink team needed something to promote upcoming app, and measure perspective users engagement, and interest in a new “thing.”

The best way to provide users with simple easy to understand information about the product is a landing page.

Project Goals

  • Design an enticing landing page describing features of the Linkapp for target audience
  • Encourage conversion from leads into users of the coming app.
  • Ensure that user experience will be positive and consistent with any device.

Project Challenges

Time

LetsLink team needed landing page designed and developed as soon as possible, so I had to work on this project, considering strict time constrains.

Pandemic

Coronavirus made the process of user research more complex, and it took more time to complete, because of lockdowns that led to bigger time spending.

Research

Since I already have done research for LinkApp, I already understood what users this project targeted, and main features that will be insterested for users, so I went ahead and used aready obtained information for landing page design. I verified my data through additional interviews.

Target Users

  • College Students
  • People who recently moved to a new location and don't have connections.
  • Anyone who wants to find new friends, or something to do locally

Interesteed Organizations

  • Colleges and schools
  • Companies that sell tickets for events
  • Local businesses
  • Local social organizations and religious communities

Key Findings

  • Simplicity is the key of retaining user on a web page. Text amount should be decreased to minimum, leaving only the most important information for features showcase.
  • Users tend to be more open to colorful UI, which "create a playful happy feeling"

Design

Wireframes

Wireframes of landing page were created to validate design choices, derived from research results to simulate possible interactions and identify usability issues.

Wireframes for Landing Page

Bringing it All to Life

Based on wireframes, I completed UI design. While working on UI, my goal was to make it playful, by adding more color and animations to landing page.

Prototype Structure

Adding Animations

I added animations for three tiles, representing main features of the app: "LinkUp," "Geochat" and "What's the Move?". With animations, user's attention gets focused on main parts of the landing page, motivating user to read about LinkApp's features. Animations also bring life to landing page, making it interactive, increasing positive experience from it.

One look for all devices

Tile-based UI is easy to scale and adapt to any screen. Tiles are the same from small phone screens to large desktops monitors:

Testing

Usability Testing Findings

I conducted usability testing with a group of 20 people and identified a few places, where user experience can be improved, which resulted in these changes:

  • Animations were made smoother and now motion starts in order, allowing user to get a glance of all the features, cathing user's attention one at a time.
  • Subscription form was simplified to allow better user conversion with less sctions.
  • Links to social networks were added, to help users get news about LinkApp on platform of their choice: Tiktok, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat.

Results

How did it go?

Landing page allowed LetsLink LLC team to showcase app features and get prospective users sign up for updates, securing initial userbase right at the time of release, making a great spikes in downloads from day one.
